These programs update Adobe Photoshop™ 2.5 to the final version of Adobe Photoshop™ 2.5.1. Registered owners will be sent a free disk-based update to version 2.5.1 automatically by first-class mail.
Double-click to extract the files "Install 2.5.1 Updater" and "Install New 2.5.1 Plug-ins" onto your hard drive. These create an updater application and a new set of Plug-ins and Extensions for Adobe Photoshop 2.5.1. Launch the patch application to update your copy of Adobe Photoshop 2.5 to Adobe Photoshop 2.5.1.
If you have previously updated Adobe Photoshop 2.5™ with a beta Patch, you must restore the orginal 2.5 application from your master disks before executing this Patch.
The Kodak CMS Photo CD Plug-in and QuickTime™ are not provided with this version of the update. These are included on the 2.5.1 update disks that registered users will receive.
The new 2.5.1 Plug-ins are provided in a separate file. All Distort filters now feature sliders and previews so you can get more accurate, predictable results.
Drag the new 2.5.1 Plug-ins to your 2.5 Plug-ins folder. This will replace the old 2.5 Plug-ins while leaving intact any third-party plug-ins you may have. Optional Extensions (Plug-ins) allow you to customize attributes of Adobe Photoshop to suit your needs. Each optional extension has a corresponding text file which explains the plug-in.
Version 2.5.1 of Adobe Photoshop™ adds a number of new features:
• Support for previews of images in the standard open dialog when QuickTime is installed. Note that previews will only be available for files saved with this version of Photoshop and will not be generated for existing files until they are opened and saved.
• Support for doing searches from the open dialogs.
• Limited support for 16-bit grayscale and 48-bit RGB images. Given an appropriate acquire plug-in (vendors are working on these now) or an appropriate TIFF file, Photoshop will be able to open images with 16 bits per channel rather than 8 bits per channel. Operations in this mode are limited to the Levels and Curves adjustment dialogs and saving in Photoshop and TIFF formats. This feature was designed to allow users to bring in images and perform their initial color corrections before converting them to a more time and space efficient 8 bit per channel form. Leaf scanners and digital cameras are the only currently available devices that create these hi-fidelity images.
• The enter key now strokes the current path if a painting tool is selected and converts the path into a selection in all other cases.
• Selective revert using the Fill dialog.
• 250 pixel radius for the gaussian blur, high pass, and unsharp mask filters and for all feathering operations. This increase may not work with all current Adobe Charged filter accelerators because it involved removing a limitation in some of the code we have licensed to Adobe Charged acceleration vendors. All Adobe Charged accelerators should work with radii of up to 100 pixels and we are working with the vendors to correct this problem.
Adobe Photoshop™ 2.5.1 also addresses a number of problems including reading certain Crossfield TIFF files, reading and writing JPEG PICTs, and provides a more optimized solution to out of memory problems in large memory configurations.
This program makes a copy of Adobe Photoshop™ 2.5 and updates that copy rather than updating the original. To keep the size of this updater down, we have not made it capable of updating beta copies of 2.5.1. If you have already updated to a beta version, you will need to re-install from your original disks. If you want to be able to reliably launch the updated copy rather than original when double-clicking documents in the finder, you will need to delete your original after updating your copy. Also, be sure to replace any aliases you have to Adobe Photoshop™ 2.5 with aliases pointing to the updated copy.
This updater cannot work properly while virus detection software is running. Please make sure that you have disabled any virus detectors before applying the patch.
